technology is allowing to do more with less conscious effort
for example if i ask chatgpt to compute the price of nvidia stock if it increase by 10% MoM in 10 years, it will generate code to compute the number and giving you the answer
5 years ago i would have had to use my own brain or a calculator and allocate the whole time in conscious effort, e.g. attention, while with chatgpt i can just ask the question (1-3 second typing) and wait for a result or do something else in the meantime but usually would be faster than doing the calculation on my own (except if you're used to do it frequently so it's in your memory cache, what's called [[System 1]] in psychology)
when chatgpt arrived it allowed us to find specific information faster than google but it's only text while maybe if you're looking for a specific information about stocks a specialized interface like eToro or something else would give you the information as fast as chatgpt but with a more intuitive interface than text (chatgpt)
let's define "intuitive"
intuitive is what is naturally easy to understand for a human
things that are naturally easy to understand for humans are things we've been interacting with for a very long time on the evolutionary scale like walking, hitting stuff with rocks, using stone tablets, seeing shapes like trees, mammoths, lions, the odour of flowers, the taste berries ...
text is rather intuitive because we've been dealing with text for thousand of years, although we've been seeing shapes like trees for longer
so, again, intuitive things are what are similar to what we interacted with for a very long time
ok let's go back to this stock interface thing
you understand faster an interface displaying "charts" of stocks than text, because a chart is similar to things you've seen in nature for longer than text
now - can we make chatgpt generate these more intuitive interfaces? yes
so we can get the speed of finding information of chatgpt and the intuitiveness of UIs
the fundamental purpose of interfaces are to transmit information between the external world and the internal world (our brain/mind) as fast as possible,
e.g. good interface maximize the bandwidth of information between the external and the internal
### drawing the map
back to [[Philosophy/Rationality/Models/First Principles|First Principles]]
the added friction to transmit information from external to internal is your model of the external world, created by your mind
in other word, your mind create a [[The Map is not the Territory|map of the territory]]
you have both a natural map, created by decades of [[Evolution|evolution]] and learned map through your life
for example when you first used a smartphone it was really hard, then you learned that usually moving the thumb from right to left is moving stuff on the screen to left (they leveraged your natural map as much as possible and added a little layer because smartphone is still a new interface even though it looks like what we used to deal with for a while: stone tablets)
### generative ui
so in the future we're going to generate every UI, personalised to the individual map
this is just following the software / web evolution, interfaces keep becoming more and more personalised to your individual map in order to maximize the bandwitdth of information between your mind and the external world

intuitive stuff are stuff that survived the test of time
