# Level 3 consciousness - System 2 - LLM planning
>First, Einstein spent most of his time thinking via “thought experiments.” He was a theoretical physicist, not an experimental one, so he was continually running sophisticated simulations of the future in his head. In other words, his laboratory was his mind.

Level 3 consciousness according to Michio Kaku is referred to as self-awareness, which includes a sense of time and the ability to make predictions based on past experiences. This level of consciousness is unique to humans. I suggest a connection between psychology's System 2 and System 1 with the present theory of consciousness.
System 1 is our intuitive thought process that is fast, automatic, frequent, emotional, stereotypic, and subconscious. System 2, on the other hand, is slow, effortful, infrequent, logical, calculating, and conscious.
In this model, System 2 is akin to the Level 3 consciousness, which is about long-term planning, manipulating many variables at once and simulating the future. This kind of cognitive function is considered a hallmark of human intelligence. It allows us to plan, strategize, and conduct what-if analysis.
Level 3 consciousness provides humans with a greater capacity to navigate the world, using hypothesis testing, problem-solving, and decision making - functions that assist with long-term planning.
In a sens, [[Simulation is intelligence|simulation is intelligence]]
In this model, intelligence is not just about knowledge or the ability to learn quickly, but also about the ability to anticipate, simulate and strategize, which are distinctive features of Level 3 consciousness and System 2 thinking. This interpretation opens up new avenues for looking at the crux of human intelligence and broadens our understanding of consciousness.
A potential challenge to this theory could be from those who consider spontaneous creativity and intuition (typically associated with System 1 thinking or lower levels of consciousness) as expressions of intelligence as well. Although these may not involve future forecasting or simulation in the traditional sense, they do lend to problem-solving and innovation.
Nonetheless, the proposed connection between Level 3 consciousness - System 2 - Long-term planning extends the scope of what we include as intelligence. It places a significant emphasis on the ability to manipulate ideas, variables, and create future simulations as an integral aspect of our cognitive machinery.
