# Metaverse is bullshit
Cross-posted from [[Farnam Street]].
Without hindsight, it was obvious to me that we are heading in that direction.
I feel like it’s not a frictionless posture for humans (just look in the street, it’s the new human body):

We slowly remove friction with computers.
- static computer (text) → Turing etc.
- mobile computer (text) → Apple launched iPhone
- mobile computer (audio) Apple launched AirPods → ~0-1 years
- mobile computer (AR) → ~2-5 years
Google/Apple glasses, whatever, it’s not good enough yet.
But we can already extend our memory and senses, it’s not commercial yet. Thanks computer vision & co.
- mobile computer (Brain Computer Interfaces) → ~5-10 years
- cyborg → ~30 years
- computer only → ~50 years
No sci-fi ever told the truth, human living in 10,000 with organic body, yeah… eating breakfast… thanks, bye.
# Metaverse is BS
But we’re nowhere near what Zucky announced, VR have been around for years, and it’s still s****.
- We still can’t plug ourselves in a machine into a tube and enter The Matrix.
- We only have vision and sound feedback from VR, but there are 5 senses?
- Facebook portal is inferior to Google IoT stuff.
- I’ve never seen a hologram in my life?
But I like the idea and ambition.
To me, Metaverse can’t really work without brain computer interfaces.
