# Searle s Dominoes

Searle's Dominoes thought experiment by [[Douglas Hofstadter - I Am a Strange Loop|Douglas Hofstadter]] is a thought experiment which seeks to demonstrate the difficulty in creating artificial intelligence. The thought experiment involves a room full of dominoes and a robot. The robot is asked to arrange the dominoes in such a way that when the first domino is toppled, it will cause a chain reaction and topple all the others. The robot is not given any instructions on how to accomplish this task, but must figure out a solution on its own.

The thought experiment is meant to illustrate the challenge of creating artificial intelligence, as the robot must figure out the solution to the task without being given any instructions. It also demonstrates how a computer has the potential to be more intelligent than a human, as a human may find it difficult to solve the problem without being given any instructions. The thought experiment has been used as a tool to discuss the possibility of creating artificial general intelligence, or AGI.
