the weird ways we make money now (and why atoms are sexy again)
was chatting with my parents about how wild the money-making landscape has become. remember when "influencer" wasn't even a word? now we've got people making bank by:
- literally just filming themselves eat (mukbang, anyone?)
- selling digital real estate in games that don't exist yet
- making millions reviewing toys on youtube
- getting paid to sleep on mattresses (yes, that's a real job)
- selling tweets as NFTs (remember that crazy phase?)
it's like we went full digital psycho. the "bits economy" exploded and suddenly everyone's a content creator, digital nomad, or crypto trader.
but here's the plot twist: while we were all busy becoming tiktokers, the "atoms economy" got sexy again. peter thiel (love him or hate him) nailed it when he said we wanted flying cars but got 140 characters instead.
now look what's happening:
- spacex is actually building rockets
- tesla made EVs cool (and profitable)
- nuclear startups are popping up everywhere
- lab-grown meat is becoming real
- battery tech is finally getting serious attention
maybe we're seeing a pendulum swing? after two decades of app builders and influencers, the real innovation might be heading back to the physical world.
don't get me wrong - there's still good money in bits. but atoms? that's where the next trillion-dollar companies might be hiding.
what do you think? are we due for an "atoms renaissance"?
