# Is marketing necessary for humanity
A theme recurrent in my [[Mind|mind]] over the years
I had multiple opportunities of working in this industry, and always asked myself "wouldn't I feel a little bit of pain in me seeing myself in five years working in marketing?"
Fundamentally marketing is buying people's attention. But imagine Bob have a shitty product and do a lot of marketing, get users. On the other hand Alice has an incredible product but doesn't put effort in marketing and ends up with no users.
So marketing is useful and smart people should use it
But is there an alternative to buy people's attention, couldn't there be an automatic way to balance attention, according to the value brought by the product, maybe? A superior intelligence, an [[Artificial intelligence|AI]] that optimize attention according to [[Value|value]]?
