# Relationship fail fast
[[YCombinator]] has become widely known for its mantra of "fail fast". This concept encourages entrepreneurs to test ideas quickly and iterate often in order to refine their solutions. This allows entrepreneurs to gain feedback on their products and services quicker than traditional methods. By failing fast, entrepreneurs can learn from their mistakes and make improvements to their ideas much faster. Additionally, this idea also helps entrepreneurs to quickly identify which solutions are worth pursuing and which ones aren’t. By failing fast, entrepreneurs can save time and money, while learning valuable lessons along the way.
When a seed germinates, it sprouts and quickly tests the environment to see if the conditions are suitable for its survival. If the environment is not suitable, the seedling will die and the plant will not waste any more resources trying to grow in that environment. This is similar to the concept of failing fast in business, where entrepreneurs quickly test their ideas and then improve upon them or discard them if they are not successful.
Failing fast can be applied to [[Relationships|relationships]] in the sense that you should avoid the [[Sunk cost fallacy]] and terminate a relationship as soon as it becomes unhealthy, rather than trying to fix it or make it work. This can be beneficial in the long-term, as it saves time and energy that would be wasted trying to fix an unhealthy relationship. Additionally, it can help to prevent future hurt and disappointment by avoiding the situation altogether.
