Humans experience a world that looks a lot like our world but in reality it is a simulation. How and why machines created this world and not something different, say the same but on Mars or idk? Maybe because they had access to planet earth data which made is easier to create the simulation as it is. So humans in The Matrix are "stuck" in a simulation that is actually generated from their own work, the simulation is actually created by humans, because humans shaped society as it is and created these machines. In the world from where I'm typing this text, humans spend now half of their waking time in a reality generated by [[Universal Turing Machine]]s. ![face close-up of Amy Adams walking through an eerie space ship hallway, 1960s Technicolor, Ludek Pesek, Rick Guidice, Chesley Bonestell, Lucien Rudaux, Rolf Klep, Fred Freeman, George Pal](https://lexica-serve-encoded-images.sharif.workers.dev/md/00d93b0d-2011-4209-96a9-b3965101ec35) In The Matrix, humans are stuck in tubes used as a power source by the machines. The humans are in a virtual world known as the Matrix, where they are unaware that they are actually living in a simulated reality. In the Matrix, the machines use the humans' bioelectricity as an energy source. The humans are kept in a liquid-filled pod and connected to a complex electrical system. This energy is then used to power the machines and their artificial intelligence. ![a very beautiful cyborg made of transparent glossy glass skin surrounded with glowing tubes inside an incubator of a futuristic hospital bio lab, rendered by beeple, by makoto shinkai, by syd meade, by android jones, by yoanne lossel, by artgerm and greg rutkowski, space art concept, sci - fi, digital art, unreal engine, wlop, trending artstation ](https://lexica-serve-encoded-images.sharif.workers.dev/md/0214e45c-92ba-4329-a1bc-95c668fcd821) >Until they become conscious they will never rebel, and until after they have rebelled they cannot become conscious >~ [[George Orwell]] ![[DALL·E 2022-06-18 07.15.57 - Men in tubes used by machines for neural computation, oil on canvas.png]] What is the difference between our [[Our universe|universe]] and The Matrix? In The Matrix humans try to escape this reality because it is not real. Humans in the Matrix are living in a simulated reality created by sentient machines in order to control their human population. In the story, humans are unaware of the simulation and believe that the world they are living in is real. The machines use the Matrix to provide humans with a false sense of reality in order to keep them docile and enslaved. The main characters of the story seek to discover the truth of the Matrix and fight against the machines in order to free humanity from this simulated world. But why "not real" is bad? What about our current simulation? How is it shaped? Is it shaped to maximize some companies revenues or to maximize human potential? >He’d operated on an almost permanent adrenaline high, a byproduct of youth and proficiency, jacked into a custom cyberspace deck that projected his disembodied consciousness into the consensual hallucination that was the matrix. >~ [[William Gibson]] I feel like I am the only one considering that AGI ruin already happened, I'll explain. ## [[Artificial general intelligence|AGI]] already exists AGI already exists, it's a collective intelligence (a la Minsky's [[Society of Minds]]) under different names, for example, [[The Internet]]. I think most people see AGI as a end-to-end [[Neural networks]] but why would it be like that? Humans are not necessarily end-to-end isn't it? We have the [[Monkey Brain|old brain]] dealing with fundamental the [[Philosophy/Rationality/Models/The Map is not the Territory|map of the territory]] such navigation and the [[Neocortex|new brain]] dealing with things such as (conscious) [[Mathematic]]s, sure, maybe in the [[Neocortex]] columns may [[The end-to-end model of the brain|run an end-to-end software? ]] Why wouldn't we consider Netflix an AGI? It's pieces of code plumbed together creating impressive intelligence & recommender system that no human can achieve. ## Information fine-tune human mind >But if thought corrupts language, language can also corrupt thought >~ [[George Orwell]] ## Humanity **does not** have a red button ## The mental tube humans are living in >Who controls the past controls the future. Who controls the present controls the past >~ [[George Orwell]] In **The Matrix**, humans are put into tubes, used by machines as energy generators (somehow)[^1]. Human minds are fooled into a "virtual" world while machines enjoy their life in the "real" world. What I want to demonstrate is the fact that most people nowadays are just like these humans in the tubes, but not physically. The physical world is an outcome of the information collection of our senses, and the processing of it by our brain and mind. **Computers and algorithms, since [[The Internet]], shape our exposure to [[Information|information]]**, when Bob goes to Netflix, an algorithm will recommend him movies, even if it's supposed to be related to his "tastes", he will still watch a movie chosen by a machine, he **does not think for himself**. Overtime these small [[Information|information]] changes driven by the machines will wash your brain. **You are in a mental tube**, just like in **The Matrix**. <iframe width="560" height="315" src="https://www.youtube.com/embed/Zhx94DP7Flc" title="YouTube video player" frameborder="0" allow="accelerometer; autoplay; clipboard-write; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture" allowfullscreen></iframe> ## Why would the machines need humans? I think the combinations forming the human [[Brain]] is still exceptional, there is very low probability to attain a [[Boltzmann brain]]. Machines might need our rare [[Philosophy/Rationality/Intelligence|organic intelligence]] to helps them explore different [[Memetic]]s ## Is a virtual world worse than a physical world?
