# Mithridatism
Nassim Taleb's concept of mithridatism is based on the story of Mithridates, the King of Pontus, who is said to have taken small doses of poison in an effort to become immune to the effects of it. Taleb believes that by taking small amounts of risk in our lives, we can make ourselves immune to the larger risks we face. This is known as [[Philosophy/Rationality/Models/Antifragility|antifragility]], which is a state where one can gain from disorder and chaos. Mithridatism is seen as an example of antifragility as it allows an individual to build up resilience to potential risks by exposing themselves to small doses of them. Taleb believes this concept can help individuals become more resilient in the face of larger risks and better prepare them for any potential outcomes.
