# Plutarch

Plutarch was a Greek historian and biographer who wrote extensively on the lives of famous Greeks and Romans. His most famous works are his Parallel Lives, a series of biographies of famous Greeks and Romans, and his Moralia, a collection of essays and writings on a variety of topics. Plutarch's works were influential in the development of moral philosophy and the revival of Stoic and Neoplatonic thought in the Renaissance. He is also seen as a major influence on the development of the Western philosophical tradition, particularly through his writings on justice and other virtues. Plutarch's themes revolve around the idea of virtue, both in the sense of moral excellence and of practical wisdom in understanding how to live a good life. He emphasizes the importance of making choices that lead to a life of virtue, and he exhorts readers to strive towards excellence in all aspects of their lives.
