# Radical optimism
Radical optimism, as explained by Matt Ridley, is the belief that human progress is achievable through collaboration, communication, and cooperation. It is based on the idea that by working together, humans can achieve greater things than they could alone, and that by leveraging the collective knowledge of a group, we can solve difficult problems and create a better future. This concept can be extended to game theory concepts such as "[[Superrationality]]", which suggests that when players cooperate, they can often achieve better outcomes than when they act in their own self-interest. Superrationality recognizes that, by working together, players can reach more efficient solutions than when they act as individuals. In this way, radical optimism and superrationality are similar in that both suggest that human progress can be achieved through collaboration and cooperation.
[[Forgetful tit for tat]] is the typical strategy of the radical optimist. This strategy suggests that when two players interact, they should cooperate with each other and not hold grudges. If one player makes a mistake or fails to cooperate, the other should forget the incident and cooperate again. This strategy is based on the idea that collaboration is more beneficial than competition, and that by setting aside petty grievances, two players can work together to achieve a more successful outcome.
