#personal-hackathon A personal or Life Taxonomy (taxonomy = think tree of life) is how you mentally split up all the areas in your life, like health, finances, career, etc.. The main purpose of this is to avoid overlooking an important part of you, or neglecting a responsibility. The main benefit of knowing “what goes where” in your life is that it can significantly free up mental resources and give you of feeling of trust that everything is at least written down somewhere. This avoids context switching and is an important precondition for sustained focus. So let’s goo. Take the next 15-30 minutes to come up with your own taxonomy. You can branch it as often as you want, use a mind mapping software or pen and paper. I would suggest doing this on your own, but small groups also work. Go for as many buckets as you can think of. _Remember that a good taxonomy needs to be **exclusive** and **extensive,** which just means it shouldn’t be confusing (by having overlaps or weird things that belong in different buckets) and it should include everything._ - Area 1 - Subarea 1 Now try to limit each Branch and the highlevel areas to a few items each. The total number should be between 20 and 50.
