growth is math

May 24, 2024

All growth is measurable (fitness/wealth/relationships)

everything in life related to growth comes down to math

want to be more fit? measure your weight, body fat, workout intensity, calories, nutrient, inactivity, etc., daily

want to be wealthier? set goals & activity that are aligned with wealth creation and measure the evolution, daily

want to have better relationships? measure how many times you express gratitude, go on date, invite friends, etc. frequently

most people try to grow in a “wishy-washy” fashion

they say “i want to be fit” and go to the gym but don’t track any metrics that contribute to making them more fit

or they say “i want to be rich” and act but dont track or follow the wrong metrics like money in the bank, it’s too high level. you need to break down first

or have better relationships and this is the worst here, people mostly talk about the weather or drink beers (if you’re in sf it’s much more likely ppl will have more interesting conversation)

how to use math for growth

”i want to be more fit”

buy wearables like whoop and track your activity like strain

optimise for maximum strain

if you cant afford it, use pain as a metric

more pain = better workout

studies have shown pain yields ton of dopamine afterward, such as ice bath. 10 min ice bath = 2h dopamine release, it’s so irrational not to take ice baths

track your weight and body fat, but don’t look everyday, that’s noise. look weekly or monthly, daily changes are irrelevant

”i want to be more wealthy”

assuming you’ve already covered the bases (read all books about sales and Naval Ravikant)

whatever you’re doing, track daily the differences, like how many ppl you outreached today for sales, pick 1-3 metrics and optimise daily

reflect weekly if your metric is actually well aligned with wealth

”i want to have better relationships”

how many times did you see your friends? your romantic partner?

how many gifts? dates? something else?

how your numbers by heart

the usefulness of knowing by heart your numbers is not to recite to your school teacher but rather to be constantly aware of what you need to do daily, BECOME LASER FOCUSED
